All about the durability of vinyl plank flooring

Vinyl planks, referred to as luxury vinyl planks, are a form of luxury vinyl. It refers to when the material is cut into strips and mounted on boards to mimic hardwood.

This flooring is 100% waterproof, whether submerged or spilled on. It provides the elegance of wood and is ideal for any decor, whether traditional, modern, or more.

Just like natural wood, there are many stain options. This flooring is also strong, able to stand up to everyday wear and heavy foot traffic.

Wear layers are critical to the durability

All vinyl flooring is tough, but this is even more so, mainly because of the wear layer. It protects the floor from scratches, scuffs, and dents and keeps spills from absorbing.

These floors' thickness should measure 8 mm and 12 mm. Thicker is better, as it's quieter, hides subfloor imperfections better, and provides more design options.

The wear layer measures separately as mils. The 20-mils measurement is the most robust for residential use.

It's also layered and five times thicker than the original product.

Types of finishes

The finish plays a significant role in vinyl flooring by providing extra strength and shine. Three types with different strength levels accommodate any level of foot traffic.

What you choose will depend on where you're installing. For instance, you'd need a different one for the kitchen than for the bedroom!

Ask your flooring expert about the best finish for your vinyl flooring. Be sure to describe your project in detail.
